Winter 06

Winter can be both a breathtaking and sometimes challenging time to enjoy time out on your bike. Here are some helpful hints to keep you riding strong.

Winter riding wreaks havoc on brake pads and can tear up your rim's braking surface. Inspect brake pads and rim sidewalls often. Replace brake pads when the small grooves in the pads' surface begin to disappear. Don't let pads go too long or you may do damage to your rim's braking surface. If a groove like this one (see image below) develops in your rim's braking surface it's time for a rebuild. Damage like this can result in a catastrophic rim failure.

In order to prevent this type of rim damage, add braking power, and improve wet weather performance we recommend using the Kool Stop All Conditions brake pad. These pads offer superior braking performance and will help reduce wear to your rim's braking surface.
